Looking for where to eat in Sydney? You’ve come to the right place.
Sydney’s food scene exceeded all of my expectations. I figured they would have good restaurants (as any big city does), but everything we ate here really was phenomenal. We ate at restaurants primarily recommended to us by a friend that lives in Sydney, so in addition to my recommendations based off of where we ate, I’ve included her other recommendations that we didn’t get to this time.
Where to eat in Sydney: Breakfast and Brunch
Where we went:

Bills – Several locations
We went to the Surry Hills location, but from pictures, all of the cafes look equally inviting. We started with a muffin to share (would recommend) and I ordered the avocado toast with a side of sausage. This avocado toast is exactly what you’d want from an Aussie brunch spot – Thick cut sourdough, tons of avocado, and seasoned to perfection. seriously the best Avo toast I’ve ever had. Their sausage was also 10/10!
THEECA – Darlinghurst
An adorable cafe with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. They’re famous for their pancake – yes, singular pancake – which is definitely the most gorgeous pancake I’ve ever seen. We had the sweet option (there is also a savory option), which I recommend ordering as a starter for the table!
I also had the scrambled eggs with truffle oil + parm and sourdough. very good!
Banksia Bakehouse – CBD
Saw this place on Tiktok and it did not disappoint. Their plain croissant is the new top scoring croissant on croissants around the world, that’s how good it was. Definitely recommend the plain over the almond or ham and cheese.
Additional Recs from my Aussie friend:
- Pina – Potts Point
- Single O – Surry Hills
- Reuben Hills – Surry Hills
- Blackwood – Bondi
Where to eat in Sydney: Lunch
Where we went:

S’Wich – Bondi and Surry Hills
a cafe dedicated to and known for amazing sandwiches. so many to choose from or you can build your own. I had the Schnit-c which was basically a chicken caesar sandwich. Their salads also sound really good!
Devon Cafe – Barangaroo, Surry Hills, and North Sydney
This asian fusion spot had incredible lunch options. I got the Chicken Katsu sandwich, which had the fluffiest bread ever. Fries were also very good. a great casual spot!
Additional Recs from my Aussie friend:
- Marrickville Pork Roll – Marrickville (get Banh Mi)
Where to eat in Sydney: Dinner
Where we went:

Funkatello – Darlinghurst (Italian)
Cute, Cozy, and homey – the ideal vibes for a delicious Italian meal. We may have ordered too much… but no regrets because everything was truly so good. My recs are the burrata, Spicy Nduja Arancini balls, Beef Ragu, and Bucatini ALL’AMATRICIANA. Also, The prices at Funkatello are incredibly reasonable – a must go-to spot!
Mr. Wong – CBD (Chinese)
Possibly the most popular restaurant in Sydney, and for good reason. The restaurant itself is very cool – kind of upscale loft vibes? and the food is even better. we had the kingfish crudo, lamb ribs, Mr. Wong’s Special fried rice, beef cubes, and twice cooked green beans (these were the best!). I will say that this is definitely a better spot for a big group only because the portions are so big and you’ll want to try a lot of things.
Le Foote – The Rocks (French)
Another super cozy spot tucked away in the Rocks. We had the best service at this place, which is hard to come by in countries where tipping is less common. Food was also great – definitely recommend the french onion soup and the french fries were like Mcdonald’s fries (in the best way possible).
